What is in-house veterinary lab testing?

In-house lab testing means we perform blood and other tests onsite using high-quality, veterinary-grade machines linked to modern software.

It provides fast, accurate results that are instantly added to your pet’s medical records.

Common veterinary laboratory tests

We are able to perform routine health tests as well as investigative tests for unwell patients.
Blood tests can screen for conditions such as kidney or liver disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, pancreatitis, anaemia, inflammation, and electrolyte imbalances. With our microscope, we can also examine biopsy samples, ear smears, skin scrapes, urine, and more.

The benefits

Our in-house laboratory gives us almost immediate results. Many tests in house cost less than with an external laboratory

FAQs

Do all pets need lab tests?

Most pets will benefit from certain healthcheck tests during their life.  If you are unsure if your pet would benefit from a test, reach out to discuss with one of our team.

Are the tests painful?

Blood tests and needle samples of an abnormal lump or lesion are quick, minimally invasive and extremely well tolerated by most pets. Calm and careful handling during the test by one of our skilled team members means it is over in no time and they often don’t feel a thing.

Will I get the results during the visit?

Cytology and some biopsy results will be available during the visit. Blood results using our in-house machines may take a little longer, so you can wait or we can call you with the results.

If we send the sample to the external laboratory, the results could be later that day or a few days depending on the test.

Can you test for serious conditions?

Yes, we are able to assess for serious conditions that might be detected on a blood or urine sample or needle aspirate.

Follow up testing such as x-rays, pet ultrasounds or external laboratory testing might be recommended.

Is this service only available during normal clinic hours?

Yes, our in-house laboratory services are available during our regular clinic hours. This ensures that our trained veterinary team is on hand to promptly process samples and interpret results accurately.
