FAQs
Modern veterinary anaesthesia is very safe, even for older pets, thanks to advanced drugs and monitoring. We perform thorough pre-anaesthetic exams and blood tests to tailor a plan based on your pet’s health and procedure.
During surgery, we continuously monitor vital signs and closely oversee recovery to ensure safety and comfort.
This will largely depend on the type of surgery and size of your pet. We may be able to give you an estimate of cost over the phone, alternatively a more accurate estimate can be provided by one of our vets during a consultation
We make every effort to ensure your pet is comfortable and pain-free after surgery.
Several types of pain relief are used during the procedure and post-operatively to ensure their pain is at an absolute minimum.
Pain relief strategies include opioid injections, epidurals, local anaesthetic injections, opioid transdermal patches, anti-inflammatory medications and other oral pain relief medications.
Keeping your pet rested will also minimise their discomfort.
If you feel your pet is in pain after their operation, please let us know straight away so we can help.
This depends on the type of surgery. Most surgical skin wounds will heal in 10-14 days.
It is important that they rest during this time for rapid healing and minimal discomfort.
If you are worried your pet will not be very good at resting, let us know and we may be able to prescribe something to keep them calm while they recover.
For most surgeries, your pet will go home on the same day. In the few hours after the surgery, they will be sleepy and need to stay calm.
Sometimes a visit from a loved one can excite them and affect a smooth recovery. If they are particularly anxious in our clinic we will get them home to you as soon as possible.
